Casten Calls on Congress to Protect Abortion Rights After Egregious SCOTUS Decision Overturning Roe v. Wade
Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) released the following statement on the recent reporting that the Supreme Court Plans to strike down the abortion rights codified in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in the draft majority decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
Casten, a fierce defender of women's reproductive freedom and access care, in 2018 became the first Democrat to flip a district held by staunch anti-choice republicans for over 50 years, including the infamous Henry Hyde.
In May, Casten led 114 of his colleagues calling on the Senate to abolish the filibuster to protect abortion rights by passing the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA), legislation passed by the House that has so far failed in the Senate, which would statutorily enshrine every woman's right to reproductive health care into federal law.

"I am outraged by the Supreme Court's decision to overturn women's most fundamental right to control their own bodies, health & futures.
"Know this, I will NEVER stop fighting to defend every woman's right to make health care decisions against radical, anti-choice politicians. We won't go back.
"We cannot let the panic we are feeling scare us into silence or inaction. We all have the power to stand up and organize to elect enough pro-choice Democrats to end this nightmare scenario - and those of us with the authority to take legislative action have an obligation. Today we get angry, tomorrow we get to work."
