Casten Statement on Hostage Release and Humanitarian Pause Agreement in Gaza
Downers Grove, IL — U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) has released the following statement regarding the announced hostage release and humanitarian pause agreement in Gaza:
“The loss of life and devastation as a result of the conflict in Israel and Gaza is heartbreaking, and we must continue to do everything possible to protect innocent civilians. Having called for a humanitarian pause nearly one month ago, I welcome the news that a deal has been reached to put this pause in place and allow for the return of at least 50 Israeli and American hostages and the delivery of critical humanitarian aid into Gaza. This is important progress towards securing a lasting, durable peace in the region that ensures security, dignity, and human rights for Israelis and Palestinians.
“That said, there is more work to be done. We must take every step possible to secure the release of the remaining hostages and end terrorist violence and war. It is my hope that parties on both sides may build on these tentative first steps to come together and work to secure a durable, region-wide peace.”
Last month, Rep. Casten called for a humanitarian pause in order to facilitate the release of hostages and aid to be delivered in Gaza. For a full list of actions Rep. Casten has taken throughout the crisis, click here.
