Casten Statement on President Trump’s FY2020 Budget Request

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Sean Casten (IL-06) released the following statement after President Trump submitted his Fiscal Year 2020 Budget Request.

Casten said, "The President's budget is just another con job. It promises to make everything better, but it cuts a long list of investments needed to grow the economy – education and training, scientific research, and infrastructure. This proposal continues to push to undo hard-fought gains in affordable health care for all Americans. While arguing that "environmental protection and public health are key to U.S. prosperity and essential to America's quality of life," the President's plan cuts the EPA by 31 percent, the Department of Energy by 11 percent, and the Interior Department by 14 percent. It proposes making permanent the disastrous Trump tax cuts for the wealthiest, and chops programs that help children, the ill, and the elderly, only widening the gulf between the richest among us and working families. This President is peddling his budget as solid gold, but like else everything he hawks, it's just electroplated junk."
