Casten Statement on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Testimony Before House Judiciary And Intelligence Committees

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Sean Casten (IL-06) released the following statement on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives' Judiciary and Intelligence Committees:

Casten said, "Robert Mueller's testimony today affirmed what we already knew to be true, there is no question that Russia purposely meddled in the 2016 elections and continues to attempt to influence future elections. It is also clear that the President attempted on numerous occasions to obstruct justice. While Special Counsel Mueller didn't extrapolate beyond the four corners of the report, I appreciate the Special Counsel's testimony. The American people deserve to hear all the facts.

Today's hearings underscore the importance of securing our elections. We cannot allow Russia or any other adversarial foreign government to have the opportunity to influence American elections again and, in the process, sow discord and divide the American people. Another important take away from today is that no one, not even the President, is above the law. It's clear from the hearing today that, were he not sitting in the Oval Office, this President would be subject to criminal investigation. This country is one of the freest in the world because of our fair elections and the rule of law. Congress must act on the Special Counsel's report to protect these core American values, enshrined in our Constitution by our founding fathers."
