Casten Statement on Tabling Impeachment Resolution

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Sean Casten (IL-06) voted to table a Resolution to impeach the President of the United States. Earlier this year, Casten announced his support to open an impeachment inquiry into the President.

Casten said, "Today I voted to table a resolution to immediately impeach the President of the United States. As I have stated previously, I fully support an impeachment inquiry, wherever it may lead. I believe that an impeachment inquiry would enlighten both this House and the Senate and help the American people and their Representatives make judicious decisions. While the President's comments were racist, today's Resolution would circumvent a robust inquiry and send to the Senate articles of impeachment that fall far short of the distressing breadth of wrongdoing the Congress is already investigating and the Special Counsel has chronicled. I will continue to call for increased transparency and investigation of this Administration and will advocate passionately to hold this President accountable."
