Casten Visits Lake County Areas Affected by Local Floods
Lake County, IL –U.S. Representative Sean Casten (IL-06) joined Executive Director of Lake County Stormwater Management Commission Mike Warner and other local officials to tour three areas affected by the recent floods in the 6th District. Casten toured the Cary Floodplain Buyout Area, the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve, and the Des Plaines River Watershed and discussed water quality improvement efforts.
Casten said, "As someone who has spent his career fighting climate change, I understand the severe impact natural disasters have had on our communities and homes. Each year, these disasters get increasingly worse due to a changing climate and it is imperative that we act. I'm grateful for the efforts Lake County and the Forest Preserve District have made to mitigate recent floods and am thankful for their leadership to educate the public on this issue."
Mike Warner Stormwater Management Commission Executive Director said, "The flood damage impacts to homes and businesses along our floodplains is a critical issue not only here but also nationwide. With climate change causing more frequent and higher rainfall amounts, taking the necessary measures for flood prevention and flood education are imperative. The tour with Congressman Casten was a great opportunity to discuss concerns in his District as well as the water quality improvement efforts Lake County and the Forest Preserve District are making. We appreciate the government and community leaders who spent their Saturday learning more about flood mitigation and water quality improvement initiatives."
