CONGRESSMAN SEAN CASTEN HOSTS INFLATION TOWN HALL

**MEDIA ADVISORY**

1 PM, SATURDAY, MAY 28 AT DOWNERS GROVE PUBLIC LIBRARY

CONGRESSMAN SEAN CASTEN HOSTS INFLATION TOWN HALL

Downers Grove, IL – ?This Saturday, May 28th at 1:00 pm CT, Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) will host an in-person town hall on inflation at the Downers Grove Public Library at 1050 Curtiss St Downers Grove, IL 60515.

Casten will discuss what's causing inflation and his work in Congress to address the rising costs that families are facing—from legislation to free up our supply chain and combat corporate consolidation driving the baby formula shortage to his new ‘People Over Petroleum Act' that would deliver $500 direct cash rebates paid for by repealing $6 billion in tax subsidies flowing to big oil and gas. Casten will also discuss the horrific mass shooting that killed 19 children and 2 teachers at an elementary school in Texas this week—and his plan to combat gun violence from illegally trafficked firearms flowing into Illinois.

Since coming to Congress, Casten has made it his top priority to be accessible and in constant communication with constituents—holding over 50 Town Halls and hundreds of online community roundtables.

As always, Casten looks forward to taking as many questions as possible from constituents. Casten will take questions from press immediately before and after the Town Hall concludes.

This week, Casten introduced the People Over Petroleum Act, a new bill that will help Illinois families struggling with energy price inflation, combat climate pollution, and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. It will:

1. Provide a $500 direct cash rebate to all consumers.

2. Pay for it by eliminating 11 of the most egregious tax subsidies flowing to fossil fuel companies totaling $6 billion annually.

Accountable US found that oil and gas company giants Shell, Chevron, BP, Exxon posted record profits in 2021 totaling $75 billion while American consumers struggled to pay heating bills and fill up their gas tanks. It is absolutely unacceptable that fossil fuel companies continue to receive nearly $650 billion a year in direct and indirect U.S. tax subsidies as Americans struggle to put gas in the tank.

Since his first term in Congress, Casten has led the fight to end fossil fuel tax subsidies by introducing the End Oil and Gas Tax Subsidies Act, which would eliminate nearly a dozen of the most egregious tax breaks that undermine our nation's ability to invest in renewable energy sources at the rate necessary to stave off the most catastrophic impacts of the climate crisis.

PRESS RSVP: Press should RSVP to Emilia Emilia.Rowland@mail.House.Gov ASAP and no later than Friday 5/26 at 12 pm. Casten is available for pull aside interviews immediately before and after the town hall upon request.
