Downers Grove, IL – U.S. Representative Sean Casten (IL-06) announced that the Westmont Illinois Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Department of Homeland Security's FY 2020 COVID-19 Supplemental Grant Program (AFG-S). This $38,205 award will help Westmont Fire Department protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel through the purchase of PPE and essential supplies related to the COVID-19 response.
Casten, who has been a vocal advocate for federal COVID-19 relief for Illinois state and local emergency response said, "As we continue working together through this pandemic, it is so important that our firefighters and first responders have the supplies they need to keep themselves and our communities safe. This grant will provide Westmont Fire Department with PPE and essential supplies crucial for their COVID-19 response. Even prior to this pandemic, these brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to protect our families. Now more than ever, we owe these folks a depth of gratitude for their incredible work and sacrifice. I will continue to fight for federal funding to ensure all of Illinois' heroic essential workers have what they need to continue keeping us safe."
"We are excited to receive this award, it is a great honor to be recognized," said Westmont Fire Chief Steve Riley. "Due to the demographics in Westmont, we recognize the need for this PPE to protect the health and safety of our members and our residents.
