Casten Celebrates Expanded Access to High Speed Internet in the 6th District
Washington, D.C. (Thursday, February 1st) - Today, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) announced that 20,000 households in Illinois’ 6th District have access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet thanks to the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).
Broadband costs in the 6th District have been reduced by roughly $8.5 million annually and 92.7% of households in the district live in an area where an internet service provider is offering a no-cost plan to ACP participants.
“High-speed internet is necessary for Illinoisans to do their jobs, complete schoolwork, access health care and social service resources, and stay connected with their communities,” said Congressman Sean Casten. “I’m thrilled to see folks in the 6th District are accessing the benefits of the Affordable Connectivity Program, the largest internet affordability program in our nation’s history.”
Congressman Casten advocated for these savings in Congress, having worked to pass the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Thanks to his work, 22.5 million households across the country can now stay connected and save $30-$75 each per month on their monthly internet bills.
