Casten Hosts Roundtable with U.S. Dept. of Transportation and Illinois Dept. of Transportation Discussing IIJA Grants
Elgin, IL (October 26th, 2022) - Yesterday, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) hosted a roundtable with Charles Small, Deputy Assistant at the U.S. Department of Transportation and Betty Locker, Deputy Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation. In attendance were mayors, community leaders and local stakeholders to discuss funding and projects available in the district and state from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“I’m proud to announce we’ve already secured over $48M for the district through 38 projects alone just in the highway trust fund and infrastructure space,” said Rep. Casten. “We expect millions more through rail and transit grants, as well as programs that will get underway in the next several months. This deeply needed funding will slash commute times, lower car repair costs, reduce pollution and support good-paying, union jobs. I’m proud to have voted for this critical victory.”
Both the U.S. Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Transportation representatives discussed grant opportunities and funding support available for communities and the state during their presentations.
The 6th District has 38 projects that have received funding from the Infrastructure Law so far, amongst these are ADA improvements, traffic safety improvements, intersection upgrades, and the buildout of pedestrian paths and more projects to make transportation easier, safer, and smarter in the 6th District.
