Casten Secures $11,427,646 For Local Projects in Illinois’ 6th District

Washington, D.C.  – Today, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) voted to pass $11,427,646 in Community Project Funding that he previously secured for Illinois’s 6th District in the 2024 government funding. This funding, included in the first of the appropriations government funding packages, responds directly to some of the most pressing needs in the 6th District.

The legislation is expected to pass the Senate and be signed into law by President Biden later this week.

“After an extremely competitive project submission process and many months spent advocating tirelessly for our community, I am proud to deliver over $11 Million in Community Project Funding for Illinois' 6th district,” said Rep. Casten. “From keeping our drinking water clean and modernizing community centers to speeding up our transition to clean energy and helping our police departments keep our community safe, this funding will make a significant impact in the 6th District.”

“I’m thrilled that our community is receiving this funding thanks to Congressman Casten. The water main replacement this funding will go towards will provide access to safe and clean drinking water to Evergreen Park’s businesses, visitors, and residents,” said Kelly Burke, Mayor of Evergreen Park.

“We are so grateful for this funding--and what it means for the children that we serve at our Interim Housing Center. Each night, about 100 of the 300 people who are sleeping safe at our IHC property are children, and our hope was to create for them a safe outdoor space with a playground, green space and updated sidewalks. This funding will allow kids to experience the physical and mental health benefits of playing outside while their families are recovering from the trauma of being unsheltered, and are on their path back to a home of their own. In short, it’s going to allow our kids to have the joy of being a kid. We’re truly thankful,” said April Redzic, President and CEO of DuPage Pads.

“This major Community Project Funding grant secured through Representative Casten will enable UCP Seguin to complete much-needed renovations to two of our Employment and Day Services program sites in the 6th District. These improvements will enhance the safety, accessibility, energy-efficiency, and functionality of these centers, supporting our efforts to provide workforce development, life skills training, and community-inclusive experiences to more than 50 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We extend our deepest gratitude to Representative Casten for being a true public servant and advocate, helping UCP Seguin to fulfill our mission: life without limits for people with disabilities,” said Joseph Mengoni, UCP Seguin President and CEO.

“The Board of Commissioners and staff at the Oak Brook Park District are beyond elated to have these funds granted to our community. We are incredibly grateful for Representative Sean Casten’s dedication and hard work to secure funding for projects like our Ginger Creek Accessible Bridge and Shoreline Restoration project. We look forward to the day we break ground,” said Laure Kose, Executive Director of the Oak Brook Park District.
