Casten Statement on the Future of Climate Action
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) spoke at a press conference hosted by the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis regarding the future of climate action in the U.S. Congress.
“The problem is a majority of senators think it is more important to defend the filibuster than to defend our planet,’ said Rep. Casten. “They think it is more important to send money to fossil fuel energy producers than to save money for energy consumers. They think that it is more important to fund Vladimir Putin’s war machine than to protect the people of Ukraine. That’s not what the majority of American people want.”

In March, Rep. Casten led 89 Members of Congress in urging President Biden to restart negotiations with the Senate to pass into law the largest cost-saving, pollution clean energy investments in American history – legislation passed months ago by the House.
