Casten Statement on NDAA for FY2025

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) has released the following statement regarding the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025:

“In the six years I’ve been in Congress, the National Defense Authorization Act has been one of the last bastions of bipartisanship,” said Rep. Sean Casten. “For decades, Republicans and Democrats alike have treated the NDAA as sacrosanct, putting our nation’s national defense above politics. I have proudly voted for its final version each and every year.

“Sadly, Speaker Johnson has bucked this tradition by including a partisan poison pill to restrict access to medically necessary health care for transgender children of service members, forcing thousands of servicemembers to make the difficult choice between their child’s health care or continuing their service to our nation.

“Our service members and their families – who sacrifice so much so we can enjoy our freedom – deserve better than the bill brought to the floor today. Therefore, I voted No on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025."
