Casten Statement on Peace Deal in Gaza
Washington, D.C. (October 10th, 2025) — U.S. Congressman Sean Casten released the following statement:
“I welcome the announcement of a peace deal in Gaza. An immediate ceasefire and end to the war, the safe return of all hostages, and a surge of humanitarian aid are critical first steps to relieve the immense suffering throughout this war. My heart is with those who have experienced profound loss throughout the past two years.
“As this agreement is finalized, I will be tracking its implementation closely. The October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas was a brutal terrorist attack. Hamas must be fully demilitarized and cannot remain in power in Gaza. Palestinians must not be forced from Gaza, and those who fled must be able to return safely.
“There must also be an immediate cessation of all illegal settlements within the West Bank and accountability for those within the Israeli government who armed and funded extremist settler groups and weaponized humanitarian aid throughout the Palestinian Territories.
“Lasting peace requires recognizing the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood alongside a secure Israel. The international community, with U.S. leadership, must help rebuild Gaza’s schools, hospitals, and infrastructure and ensure that assistance reaches civilians at scale.”
