Congressman Casten Hosts Town Hall with Bipartisan Panel of Leaders on the Crisis Facing Illinois Communities without Federal Funding For Essential Services
Downers Grove, IL – U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (IL-06) hosted a Virtual Town Hall featuring a bipartisan panel of municipal leaders and local mayors to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on local government budgets and the dire need for Congress to pass funding sufficient to ensure states and localities can continue providing essential services.
Casten said, "While I'm proud of the work we've done in Congress to get relief to small businesses, we've got to recognize that this crisis has also resulted in 1.3 million public sector job losses across the country—firefighters, first responders, public health workers and other folks that work hard to keep our communities up and running every day. It's clear that if we fail to fund essential public services we all rely on as citizens and as taxpayers, the consequences to our communities will be catastrophic."
Casten was joined by Lake County Chairwoman Sandra Hart, DuPage County Board member and Finance Committee Chair Liz Chaplin, Hoffman Estates Mayor William McCleod, Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz , and West Chicago Mayor Ruben Pineda.
