Congressman Casten Statement on Vote to Remove ?Conspiracy Theory Peddling Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her Committee Roles
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) released the following statement after he voted to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene?, who has previously denied school shootings were real and pushed anti-Semitic falsehoods about the causes of wildfires, amongst others troubling conspiracy theories, from Committee roles.
"If ?supporting calls for the assassination of political leaders, asserting that 9-11 was a hoax, claiming that wildfires were caused by Jewish-funded space lasers and that the school shootings at Newtown and Parkland were staged, harassing an 18-year-old survivor of one of those shootings, and actively encouraging a deadly attack on our Capitol, isn't ?grounds to be removed from committee responsibilities, I fear for the integrity of the People's House. Mitch McConnell said that these loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican party and our country, yet just last night, it was reported that half the GOP conference gave Marjorie Taylor Greene a standing ovation. The truth is that Republican Leaders like Kevin McCarthy ?have allowed this cancer of ?right-wing extremism to take over their party—even after it threatened the lives of him, his colleagues, and staff on January 6th. Today's vote was necessary because of Leader McCarthy's ongoing failure to lead, ?and our responsibility to ensure the legitimacy of the laws passed in U.S. House of Representatives."
