Statement on the Situation in Afghanistan

Downers Grove, IL - U.S. Congressman Sean Casten released the following statement on the situation in Afghanistan:

"What is happening in Afghanistan is a horrific tragedy, especially for Afghan women and children. Twenty years ago, in the wake of 9/11 we invaded Afghanistan. Four Presidential administrations have since played a hand in the successes and failures of our presence and there is no particular value that comes from trying to score political points for or against any one of them. Our priority today must be to protect those at the greatest risk of a collapsing regime; our troops, US Embassy personnel, American citizens, and vulnerable Afghans—including those who fought alongside us to create a better, more civil society as translators and bureaucrats. This is the time to prioritize our shared humanity and do what we morally must. If you or someone you know has an approved petition for a Special Immigrant Visa, email NVCSIV@state.gov or call tel: 16033340828."
