Casten Statement on Senate Confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 7, 2022) — Today, Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) released the following statement celebrating the historic Senate confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Congressman Casten said, "Today, we celebrate the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. History has been made as we confirm the first Black woman to the highest court in the land, but fortunately for our country, she will not be the last. Justice Jackson's brilliant legal mind, commitment to equal justice under law, and unparalleled qualifications as a former public defender will push the Court to deliver on its promise of equal justice under the law. Our democracy depends on it."
Not only did every Democratic Senator vote to confirm soon-to-be Justice Jackson, but so did three Republicans: Senators Collins, Murkowski and Romney. While they may not agree with every ruling she makes, they reviewed her record and determined her to be a fair and impartial judge. Not only has Judge Jackson earned strong support in the Senate, but she has gained strong support from the public as well, with multiple surveys showing support for confirmation around 60% -- the highest since the nomination of Chief Justice John Roberts.
